The creation of the European Wood Policy Platform “woodPoP” aims to promote cooperation between government representatives, scientists, business experts, relevant European stakeholders of industry and environment, and national organizations, in developing policy solutions on the production and sustainable consumption of wood to contribute to a circular bioeconomy.

The platform goals are:
- to facilitate the policy dialogue on sustainable production and consumption of wood,
- to promote the added value of wood, especially long-lived wood products from sustainable forest management,
- to support the harmonization of regulations and standardization of wood products,
- to position the wood building sector as a key driver for inclusive green growth,
- to stimulate innovation by bringing together policy, science and practice,
- to emphasize the benefits of multifunctional forests contributing to climate protection and mitigation through reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In the frame of the Basajaun project, InnovaWood participated in the first meeting of woodPoP, which took place on December 1st in Innsbruck, Austria. It was co-chaired by the Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management from Austria and by the Ministry of the Environment from Finland, where participants exchanged views in support of the “woodPoP” on upscaling wood policy cooperation in Europe.
