During the Woodrise 2023 Conference in Bordeaux, France, the “Basajaun Innovation Days” served as the culminating event of the project. This platform provided an opportunity to showcase the BASAJAUN Southern demo building and all the project innovations to a global audience. The project partners designed a comprehensive program centered on European Research and Innovation outcomes related to BASAJAUN. Furthermore, to maximise impact and ensure widespread dissemination of results, the project strategically invested in a 75m² booth. This proactive approach aimed to amplify the reach of the achievements and optimise the dissemination of results.
A booth designed to be dissasembled and re-used
Etcetera designed the booth intended to present the project and its innovations using concepts closely linked to the project itself:
- The usage of renewable, recycled, bio-based materials to construct the booth that act as a carbon sink; thus, they offer considerable sustainability opportunities compared to traditional ones.
- The booth was designed for disassembly: the materials can be reused or recycled extending their life cycle. As few mechanical connections as possible were used to build the booth and standard sizes of the SIPs and glulam used were maintained. Designing for disassembly is a key method that was incorporated into the products, systems, and spaces of the booth to make them flexible, reusable, and more easily recycled. Moreover, the stand had also to be built in less than 2 days and dismantled in several hours, so designing for disassembly is essential for simply getting the job done on time.
- The incorporation of materials that will be reused or recycled at the end of the fair: The materials for the BASAJAUN stand at the Woodrise International conference were reused and are designed to be further reused. The SIP wall panels were already reclaimed from the Basajaun demonstration building site will be turned into stools by the original fabricator. The glulam beams and furniture are planned to be reused as a pavilion. Even the labels for the exhibits are made from cardboard leftover from their own packaging.

Circularity in construction: a scientific concept, a challenge and an opportunity for wood construction. TU Munich, Ott Stephan.
As a conclusion, Stephan Ott explained that secondary wood has the following properties:
• Its use can avoid primary resource consumption
• Its use saves energy + reduce emissions
• Lower transformation effort
• Accessibl e material source if supply chain data is available!
• “Economic” material source if wood waste burning is reduced!
• Regulations for (wood) waste are adapted!
• But it has to be treated as a valuable resource

Acoustic prediction and testing for “Basajaun” EU Project demo building using neural network, prediction for innovative wooden partition wall with composites and bio-based insulation. Bader Eddin, Mohamad; Kouyoumji, Jean-Luc; Bard, Delphine; Ménard, Sylvain.
Conclusions of this presentation:
• Artificial Neural Network performs good predictions with a good confident domain
• The final solution will be implemented by “Bouygues Construction” on the French Demo building in the “Collège Du Pian Medoc” owned by “Départementde Gironde”.
• Flanking transmissions due to vibro-acoustic transmissions through junctions are taken into account by decreasing lab testing by 3 to 5 dB.

About Woodrise
WoodRise is a global partnership event in the field of mid-to high-rise wooden buildings that joins over 1,000 participants from all the fields of the built environment as well as policymakers and standardisation entities. This year’s conference 2023 was held in Bordeaux, France.
This 2023 edition brought together 3000 participants from 20 different countries. Through plenary sessions and workshops, around 50 international speakers presented the different global challenges of mid and high-rise wood construction and its integration in the concept of sustainable cities. A true international reference for construction and wood sector professionals, the trade fair with more than 100 exhibitors was a unique opportunity to give the project international visibility and to extend it’s network.
